1. President Buhari Dissolves Obono-Obla’s SPIP

President Muhammadu Buhari has dissolved the Okoi Obono-Obla led Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property (SPIP).

Naija News reports that the Special Adviser to President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, made this known in a statement on Tuesday, September 17.

2. Nigerian Army Commence Trial Of General Over Stolen N400m

The trial of the former General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division, Sokoto, Maj.-Gen. Hakeem Otiki, over an alleged stolen N400 million by some soldiers placed under his command has been commenced by the Nigerian Army.

According to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, while inaugurating the General Court Martial on Tuesday in Abuja, said the trial was in line with the Armed Forces Act Cap A20 Laws of the Federation 2014.

3. INEC Expresses Worries Of Electoral Violence Ahead Kogi Poll

The Independent Nation Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kogi state has expressed worries over possible violence during the Nov. 16 governorship election in the state.

4. Xenophobia: South Africa Grants Landing Permit To Air Peace

South African authorities on Tuesday granted Air Peace, leading airline based in Nigeria, its landing permit to its Flight B777.

Naija News understands that the permit was granted to enable the evacuation of some 320 Nigerians who are willing to return to Nigeria owing to the recent xenophobic attacks especially melted on Nigerians in South Africa.

5. Kwara Governor Appoints 26-Year-Old Youth Corper As Commissioner

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has appointed Miss Joana Nnazua Kolo, a serving 26-year-old female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), as a commissioner.

President Muhammadu Buhari has charged members of the Police Service Commission to redouble their efforts in ensuring that the Nigeria Police Force delivers on its responsibilities.

Speaking Tuesday in Abuja while receiving the 2018 Annual Report of the Commission, President Buhari said, “the Commission has the most challenging responsibility of carrying out oversight responsibilities of the Police Force.

7. Nigeria’s Inflation Rate Drops To 11.02%

The inflation rate for the country has dropped from 11.08 percent in July to 11.02 percent in August.

According to the report released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the decrease represents a reduction of 0.06 percentage point year-on-year.

8. Ekiti State Owes Workers N57bn Salary, Pension Arrears – Fayemi

The Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, has revealed that the state is owning workers in the Civil Service the sum of N57 billion.

Governor Fayemi accused the immediate past government over the situation, he stated that the irregular payment of salary and pension by the Fayose government led to this.
