Breakdown Of Earnings By Nigerian Lawmakers
Nigerian lawmakers are widely believed according to many sources to be among the best paid, if not the best paid in the World.
The actual amount the lawmakers receive in form of salaries, allowances, and other emoluments however remain shrouded in secrecy.
Several reports have attributed different amounts as the monthly/annual take-home pay for the lawmakers.
Naija News recalls recently, Senator Shehu Sani who represented Kaduna central in the eighth National Assembly, caused a stir when he revealed that Nigerian Senators get as much as N700, 000 monthly salaries and running cost of up to N13.5m.
The Senate
According to a document prepared by the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) and published on bpsr.gov.ng (the official website of Bureau of Public Service Reforms), the President of Nigeria’s Senate has an annual take-home pay of 8,694,848:75 (N8.69m) while the monthly salary is N724,570:72.
The Deputy Senate President, has an annual take-home pay of 8,082,083:65 (N8.0m) while the monthly pay is N673,507:00.
**It is however good to note that the allowances of the Senate President and his deputy are not included in the figures above. They are marked TBP (To be provided) in the website publication.
The annual salary, including allowances, for other members of the Senate, according to RMAFC, is 12,766,320:00 (12.7m). On a monthly basis, a Nigerian senator collects salary and allowances amounting to 1,063,860:00 (N1.06m).
House Of Representatives
The Speaker of the House of Representatives receives 4,954,220:00 (N4.95m) annually and N412,851:66 monthly, excluding allowances.
According to figures from the RMAFC, Members of the House of Reps receive 9,529,038:06 (N9.5m) as annual pay and N794,086:83 on a monthly basis as salary.
