SARS Officials Allegedly Kill One In Lagos

Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) have allegedly killed a middle-aged man at the Akodo area, in Ajah, Lagos.

Naija News understands that the Nigerian police officers attached to the SARS team have since been arrested by the Police in the state.

Although the names of the SARS officers are yet to be made public, the Police in the state while confirming the incident, said the officers would be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction for possible prosecution, but upon the completion of investigation.

An eyewitness said one of the policemen shot at the man to death and tried putting the victim in their vehicle but were resisted by angry sympathisers who witnessed the scene.

The Spokesman to Lagos State Police Command, Bala Elkana in his confirmation of the incident, was reported to have said; “It is true,” and “We have commenced investigation.”

Elkana assured the public of a speedy conclusion of the investigation “as we have done in the past,” he maintained.

Similarly, a civil rights activist and #EndSARS convener Segun Awosanya in a statement said he confirmed from a police source that an investigation was ongoing into the incident.

“In the course of their illegal roam they shot and killed an innocent citizen,” Awosanya tweeted on Friday.

The #EndSARS convener, however, said the police officers are currently being processed but efforts to identify the actual shooter amongst the squad of four members still prove abortive.

He suggested that “…they will all be charged for murder at this rate. Orderly room trial in process.”

Awosanya, an advocate of disbandment of the FSARS unit of the Nigeria police expressed optimism that “they’ll not be shielded (and) justice will be served. We’re monitoring.”
