INEC Reveals Candidates That Won Party Primaries
No fewer than 123 candidates have been confirmed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as eligible to contest the guber election in Kogi and Bayelsa states.
The electoral umpire confirmed that the candidates won the party primaries to contest the Bayelsa and Kogi states governorship elections.
Naija News recalls INEC had set November 16 for the conduct of the governorship elections in the two states.
The detailed statistics from the electoral commission, released yesterday on the primaries conducted in the two states, revealed that 59 candidates will contest for the Kogi State poll, while 64 will slug it out in the Bayelsa governorship race.
However, an additional note by the INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, noted that parties may choose not to sponsor any candidate even after conducting the primaries.
“For purposes of clarity and avoidance of any ambiguity, the lists are not the list of candidates contesting the respective governorship elections! As stated in the heading, they are the result of the political party primaries monitored by the Commission.”
