1. FG Announces New Date For Ministers’ Induction Retreat

The Federal Government has announced a change in date for the 2-day induction retreat and swearing-in programme for ministers-designate.

Previously, the retreat had been fixed for Aug. 15 to Aug.16 but Naija News gathered the new date is now Aug 19 to Aug. 20.

2. Soldiers Kill Four Persons Including Three Policemen And A Civilian In Taraba

Men believed to be soldiers of the Nigerian Army today opened fire on members of the police who arrested an alleged kidnapping leader, Alhaji Hamisu in Ibi, Taraba state and were taking him in handcuff to Jalingo, the capital.

The soldiers killed three policemen, who were members of the IG intelligence response team and a civilian. And then the unexpected: they released the kidnapping suspect, Alhaji Hamisu.

3. Kogi State Deputy Governor Faces Impending Impeachment

Simon Achuba, deputy governor of Kogi state faces threats of impeachment as the state house of assembly have commenced the proceedings to remove him from the seat.

On Wednesday, a petition was read to the house against Achuba, by the majority leader of the house, Abdullahi Bello.

4. Ogun Customs Command Split Into Two

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun Area Command, says it has unbundled the Area Command to create room for greater efficiency in the service.

From the exercise, two new Customs Area Commands will be created from the hitherto one command to enhance administration and boost revenue generation.

The Department for Security Services (DSS) is yet to release arrested former Politics Editor at Daily Trust newspaper, Ibrahim Dan-Halilu.

Naija News understands that the journalist was arrested last Monday in Kaduna. for allegedly supporting the activities of RevolutionNow in a Facebook post.

6. Buhari Meets APC Leaders In Abuja

Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria’s president on Wednesday, held a closed-door meeting with the members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Naija News understands that the meeting started around 12noon at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

7. Revolution Now: Archbishop Martins Tells Buhari What To Do With Protesters

Few days after the arrest of the Presidential candidate of African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, by the operatives of Department State Service, the Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev. Adewale Martins, has stated that things may get worse in Nigeria if President Muhammadu Buhari fails to tackle the issue of insecurity in the country.

The Archbishop warned that Nigeria may employ self-help if their security can’t be guaranteed.

8. Nigeria: Three Deaths In A Double Suicide Bombing In Borno

Two suicide bombers blew themselves up in a crowd in northeastern Nigeria, killing three people and wounding eight in an attack attributed to Boko Haram Islamists, relief services reported on Wednesday.

The double explosion occurred Tuesday evening in Mafa, an agglomeration located about fifty km from the regional capital of Borno State, Maiduguri.

9. Buhari Replies Catholic Bishops’ Accusation On Security

President Muhammadu Buhari has warned Catholic Bishop (CBCN) against creating panic among Nigerians through their accusation of government levity on security matters.

Naija News learnt that the president was disappointed by the statement released by the religious stakeholders in its biannual conference.

10. DSS Arrest: Sowore Has Not Committed Any Crime – Falana

Human rights and constitutional lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), says his client Omoyele Sowore, who is under detention, has not committed any crime under the Nigerian law.
