Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has backed calls by ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo for a national dialogue on insecurity.
He made this known when hosting the President of Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) Reverend Stephen Panya Baba, at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi, the state capital.
Ortom noted that the present challenges rocking the nations need to be addressed national to get a solution backed by all.
According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase: “The Governor urged President Muhammadu Buhari to call for a National Dialogue Forum where Nigerians would frankly speak on issues affecting the country, particularly insecurity and proffer solutions.
“As an interim measure to end the wave of threats and counter-threats from different sections of the country, Governor Ortom recommended that security operatives should not ignore those beating drums of war.”
Ortom also condemned the latest directive by Miyetti Allah to herdsmen, calling on herders to defend themselves against ethnic militias.
Naija News recalls that Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore had directed Fulani herdsmen to defend themselves against attacks in the Southern parts of Nigeria.
This is following calls by the Northern Elders Forum on herdsmen to leave the south if their safety is not guaranteed.
The National Secretary of Miyetti Allah, Saleh Alhassan, urged herdsmen to defend their constitutional right.
He stated that herdsmen would remain where they were and that governors would be held responsible should anything happen to them.
“The Governor wondered why the group continuously makes inflammatory statements but its officials are not invited for questioning,” the statement added.
