1. INEC Withdraws 25 Certificates Of Return Following Court Order
Following the order from the court, the Independent National Electoral Commission on Monday revealed that it has withdrawn twenty-five Certificates of Return from elected candidates during the just concluded 2019 general elections.
The development was revealed by Festus Okoye, the Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee at the ‘Forum on Media Coverage of 2019 General Elections’ which took place in Enugu on Monday.
2. Presidency Releases Details Of Activities For President Buhari’s Second Term Inauguration
President Muhammadu Buhari will on May 29, be inaugurated as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for a second term in office.
Similarly, the country will be celebrating the first June 12 National Democracy Day, after the law was passed by the National Assembly.
3. Naira Marley Remanded In Prison Until May 30 As He Pleads ‘Not Guilty’
Nigerian musician, Naira Marley, who was arrested and detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been remanded in the prison custody by Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court in Lagos.
Naija News understands that the judge made the remand order on Monday morning shortly after the musician was arraigned before him on 11 counts, bordering on credit card fraud.
4. Oyo State: Tribunal Dismisses Adelabu’s Application To Recount March 9 Votes
The Election Petition Tribunal in Oyo State has dismissed an application filed by Adebayo Adelabu, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress asking to recount votes in the March 9 election.
Naija News understands that Adelabu and his party are challenging the declaration of Seyi Makinde, governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, by the Independent National Electoral Commission as the Governor-elect of the state.
5. EFCC Begins Investigating Rochas Okorocha
The chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ibrahim Magu has disclosed that the agency is investigating Rochas Okorocha, governor of Imo state.
Magu, acting chairman of the anti-graft agency, made the disclosure during an interview with Channels Television in London when he was asked particularly about Okorocha.
6. Osinbajo Presides Over Extraordinary Federal Executive Council Session
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is currently presiding over an extraordinary session of the Federal Executive Council holding at the State House in Abuja.
Naija News reports the session started by 10 am on Monday.
This was confirmed in a tweet by Mr Laoulu Akande, spokesperson of the Vice President.
7. Gunmen Attack ECWA Church, Kidnap Pastor, 16 Members In Kaduna State
Suspected kidnappers have captured a senior Pastor of Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Dankade, in Igabi local government area of Kaduna State, Rev. Zakariah Ido and 16 members of the church.
Naija News understands that activities of kidnappers and gunmen have been on the increase in the state, recently, leading to loss of many lives and missing persons.
8. Nigeria’s Economy Grew By 2.01% In First Quarter Of 2019 – NBS
Nigeria’s gross domestic product grew 2.01% in the first quarter of 2019 compared with growth of 1.89% in the same period a year before, the National Bureau of Statistics revealed earlier today.
The slow growth is recorded in the first quarter after the oil sector contracted.
9. May 29 Remains Public Holiday – Lai Mohammed
The Federal Government of Nigeria has revealed that May 29 and June 12 would be observed as public holidays.
The development was revealed by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed while speaking at a world press conference which took place in Abuja on Monday.
10. Yari Plotting To Influence Supreme Court Ruling – Marafa
Senator Kabiru Marafa has accused Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State of plotting to influence the ruling of the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court had fixed the judgement of the appeals filed by Yari and APC on the ruling of Appeal Court Sokoto on Zamfara APC candidates crisis for Friday.
