1. EFCC Vs Saraki: We Do Not Witch-Hunt Anybody Says Magu
The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has said its re-opening investigation on the President Bukola Saraki is not a witch-hunt.
According to him, the commission only invites people it suspects of corruption-related crimes.
2. Senate Commences Screening Of Emefiele’s Re-appointment By President Buhari
The Senate began screening towards the renewal of Godwin Emefiele’s tenure as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria for the second term in office on Tuesday.
The development came following the motion moved by the Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan and seconded by Sen. Philip Aduda (PDP-FCT) at a plenary presided over by the Senate President Bukola Saraki.
3. I Am Confident Of Emerging Speaker – Gbajabiamila
The Majority Leader and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Speaker in the Ninth National Assembly, Femi Gbajabiamila, has said he now has the numbers to win the seat at the House of Representatives.
Chairman of the Gbajabiamila Speakership Campaign Council, Mr Abdulmumin Jibrin, who addressed newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday, said the Majority Leader was reaching out to the current Speaker, Yakubu Dogara; former Speakers, opposition members and other speakership aspirants.
4. What Kwara State Gov-Elect, Abdulrazaq Told The Court About His Allegedly Forged WAEC Certificate
Governor-elect Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara state has denied presenting a forged West African Examination Council certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission as part of the requirement to contest the 2019 governorship election in the state.
Abdulrazaq’s counsel, Mr Lawal Jimoh while making the defense at a Kwara state High Court sitting in Ilorin today, added that the governor-elect graduated from Government College, Kaduna in June 1976.
5. What The Tribunal Said Today About President Buhari’s Election Victory
The presidential election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja, has adjourned sitting in the petition challenging the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari in the February 23 presidential election.
Naija News recalls Hope Democratic Party (HDP) had earlier filed a motion seeking to stop the swearing-in of President Buhari on May 29, 2019.
6. Biafra: IPOB Gives Update On Preparation For Remembrance Day
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has restated its resolve to lockdown ‘Biafra land’ on May 30 during the remembrance of slain “Biafra” citizens.
In a statement issued by its media and publicity secretary, Emma Powerful on Monday, the group said its chapters worldwide have resolved to prove on May 30th both in Biafraland and beyond that IPOB “remains the preeminent freedom fighting outfit anywhere on this earth at this present moment”.
7. FG Sets Up Committee On Implementation Of New Minimum Wage
The Federal Government has set up a committee on the implementation of the N30,000 new national minimum wage for Nigerian workers.
Naija News reports that the implementation committee would be inaugurated in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
The committee consists of seven ministers with the Head of Service of the Federation, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita as Chairman.
8. Opposition Party Urges Tribunal To Stop Buhari’s Inauguration
A political party, Hope Democratic Party (HDP), has set a motion to seek an order of the presidential election tribunal restraining President Muhammadu Buhari from presenting himself to be sworn-in on May 29th, 2019.
Naija News understands that the party is also seeking an order restraining the Chief Justice of Nigeria from swearing-in, administering the oath of office and oath of allegiance to the President on May 29th, 2019.
9. Election Tribunal: Ribadu Represents Buhari During Sitting
President Muhammadu Buhari in the Presidential Election tribunal sitting on Tuesday was represented by the pioneer Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Nuhu Ribadu.
Ribadu who arrived the Tuesday’s proceedings in Abuja, made this announcement when the matter slated for the day, the petition filed by Hope Democratic Party and its candidate, Ambrose Awuru, was called.
10. Again, Ortom Denies Plan To Dump PDP For APC
The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has reacted to the report that he is planning to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
The Governor in a statement released through his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, stated that he enjoys good relations with the party’s leaders and members at the state and national levels.
