House Of Reps Approves Two New State Constituencies For Benue
The House of Representatives has approved the creation of two new State constituencies for Benue State.
The approval followed a proposal to the House of Representatives by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that the boundaries of Guma State Constituency be altered by creating two state Constituencies. The new State constituencies created from Guma are Guma State Constituency and Agasha State Constituency. Attempts by other lawmakers to compel INEC to include their States in the alterations of constituencies considered failed to sail through.
Speaker Yakubu Dogara, while ruling on the motion Tuesday said the approval of Guma and Agasha constituencies was strictly based on Supreme Court judgment and cannot be altered.
Benue News: Kidnap Fear Grips Nurses
Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives in Benue State, Esther Akpai, has revealed that the lives of nurses in the state were under threat from kidnappers.
Naija News learnt, four members of the association in the state had been abducted, with one killed. Akpai also said the kidnappers are monitoring nurses in the state. she also lamented that neither the state government nor security agencies had come to their aid.
The union leader said, “Last year two nurses working at the Federal Medical Centre Makurdi and Katsina Alla were abducted. One health worker was killed during the crisis in Katsina Alla.“Due to the crisis in Katsina Alla, we advised the Health Management Board to close down the General Hospital.“Yet they (criminals) are still running after nurses in Katsina Alla.”
Benue News: 4 People Allegedly Killed In Fresh Communal Clash
Four people have been allegedly killed in a clash between Okpudu and Ollo communities of Okpowku local government area of Benue State.
Naija News gathered that the crisis resulted from a misunderstanding between some youths in the two communities.
Sources said that it escalated last Sunday following the abduction of two Okpudu youths by their Ollo counterparts. A source said that at 5 pm last Sunday, some Ollo youths who were dressed in military uniforms and armed with guns stormed Okpudu on motorcycles and ordered two youths in the area to follow them.
According to him, when the two Okpudu youths were not seen after 24 hours, their colleagues mobilised and stormed Ollo community to demand their release.
