I’ll end Apapa gridlock within my first 60 days in office –Sanwo-Olu
The Lagos State governor-elect, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said he will end the protracted gridlock in Apapa area of the state within the first 60 days of his administration.
He said not minding the politics involved, he would rid the area of all the trailers whose operations have been responsible for the intractable gridlock.
Sanwo-Olu said this on Saturday during an interactive session with his classmates at the Executive Master of Business Administration class, University of Lagos, 1998/2000 set.
Chinese woman who set Lagos hotel ablaze freed
A 47-year-old Chinese woman, Zhen Zhen, was on Friday set free by an Ikeja High Court four years after setting ablaze a section of a hotel located in Ikeja, Lagos.
Zhen was set free following a plea bargain agreement she entered into with the prosecution team of the Lagos State Government.
Delivering judgment, Justice Hakeem Oshodi, held that Zhen had served more than the two-year sentence recommended in the plea bargain agreement.
Suspected traffic robber killed, another arrested in Lagos
The police in Lagos said one suspected traffic armed robber was killed on Saturday during an exchanged of gunfire between his gang and the police in Okokomaiko area of the state.
Police Lagos Police Command Spokesman, DSP Bala Elkana, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, saying that one other member of the gang was arrested, while others escaped.
According to Elkana, on May 17, at about 10.20p.m, a team of policemen from Okokomaiko Police Station, on surveillance patrol intercepted a gang of traffic robbery suspects at Cassidy bus stop, Okokomaiko.
African football legends honour Ambode in Lagos
The Agege Stadium in Lagos was buzzing with excitement on Saturday as top African and Nigerian football legends honoured the Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode with a testimonial match as he gets set to exit office.
Virtually all the biggest African and Nigerian stars to have played the round leather game turned up for the thrilling match which was watched by a full capacity crowd at the stadium.
Among the players on the Nigerian legend team coached by Olympic gold medal-winning coach, Bonfere Joe, include Jay Jay Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu, Samson Siasia, Daniel Amokachi, Augustine Eguavoen, Mutiu Adepoju, Emmanuel Amunike, Taribo West, Uche Okechukwu, Garba Lawal, Peter Rufai and Ike Shorunmu.
Others include Finidi George, Victor Ikpeba, Obafemi Martins, Tijani Babangida, Julius Aghahowa and Sam Sodje, while Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shuaibu and Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, featured in the game.
