1. Senate Invites IGP Over Security Situation In Nigeria
The Senate has sent an invite to the acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to brief Lawmakers on the security situation in the country.
Naija News understands that the IGP will disclose what the police is doing to address the rampant kidnappings and banditry across the country.
2. FEC To Hold Its Valedictory Session On May 22
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed says the Federal Executive Council (FEC) will hold its valedictory session on May 22.
Naija News learnt that the minister made this disclosure while fielding questions from State House correspondents at the end of the Council meeting which was presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday.
3. Ex Plateau Governor, Sen. Joshua Dariye Co-Sponsors Motion From Prison
The senator representing Plateau central, Joshua Dariye, earlier today co-sponsored a motion from jail.
Naija News learnt that the lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Senator Shehu Sani, sponsored the motion, together with 107 other lawmakers, including Senator Joshua Dariye, who is currently in jail.
4. President Buhari Visits UK On A Private Visit
President Muhammadu Buhari will be away in the United Kingdom for eleven days on a private visit, his media office has reported.
Since Buhari became President in 2015, the UK has been his most visited country.
5. Atiku To Sue INEC Chairman, Others
Reports reaching Naija News suggest that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar might be forced to sue the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu.
This is as the Atiku-Obi presidential election petition legal team has decried the refusal of the electoral umpire to produce polling documents from the February the 23rd, 2019 presidential elections despite the order of the Court of Appeal, directing the commission to allow them access.
6. IGP Orders Police Operatives To Revert To 8-Hours Work Shift
The Inspector General of Police, Ag IGP Mohammed Adamu has ordered the immediate reversal of shift duty of police operatives to 8-hours standard duty.
Naija News reports the police boss gave the directive on Thursday while declaring open the conference of heads of Police Medical Facilities at the Force Head Quarters in Abuja.
7. Senators Link Police, Military Operatives With Banditry Attack, Kidnapping In The North
A finger of accusation has been pointed towards some Police and militray operatives by some lawmakers at the Senate plenary on Thursday claiming a source with information revealed that they have direct link with bandits and kidnappers across Nigeria.
The senators in their claim also stated that criminal activity has become a fast ‘booming business’.
8. Courts Are Guided By Electoral Acts, Not Social Media Videos – Keyamo
Festus Keyamo, the spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign organization, has stated that the video making rounds on the internet that the Presidential election was rigged are not as important as the Electoral Act and the Independent National Electoral Commission guidelines.
Recall that the electoral body had declared the Presidential candidate of APC, Muhammadu Buhari as the winner of the election against the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar and other contestants.
9. Joe Biden Enters US 2020 Presidential Race
Former US Vice President Joe Biden has declared he is entering the 2020 White House race, joining Senator Bernie Sanders, Cory Booker, Pete Buttigieg and other candidates running on the Democratic Party platform.
In a tweet on Thursday, accompanied by a three-and-a-half minute video, Biden said he couldn’t stand idly while US President Donald Trump “fundamentally altered the character of this nation”.
