1. US government scores Buhari low on corruption in new report
The United States Department of State has released what it termed evidence of impunity in the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The State Department’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labour, in its Country Reports on Human Rights Practices for 2018, said that Nigeria under Buhari, had made little progress in efforts to limit corruption in its public service.
2. Jonathan denies plotting to dump PDP, quit politics
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has dismissed reports that he is planning to quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or retire from politics.
He made this known in a statement by his media adviser, Ikechukwu Eze.
Jonathan, who was reacting to a report by an online publication which claimed that the ex-president had resigned from PDP and quit politics, described the news as fake.
3. Gbenga Daniels reveals he is under pressure to join APC
A former Director-General of Atiku Abubakar Campaign Organisation, Gbenga Daniel, says his supporters have been pleading with him to lead them to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party.
Naija News reports that Daniel disclosed this a day after he resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria’s main opposition party and announced that he was quitting partisan politics.
4. Ihedioha lacks capacity to govern Imo state – Okorocha
The outgoing governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha, says Emeka Ihedioha, the state governor-elect, lacks the capacity to govern a “complex” state like Imo.
Naija News reports that the governor was reacting to the allegation by the governor-elect that the state government withdrew N17 billion shortly after the governorship election.
5. Buhari will not interfere in supplementary polls – presidency
The Presidency says President Muhammadu Buhari will not interfere with the supplementary polls in five states neither would he ask the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to change results in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party.
Naija News reports that the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, Garba Shehu, made this statement on Sunday.
6. INEC speaks on supplementary elections in Adamawa state
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday disclosed that the governorship supplementary election scheduled for March 23, would be conducted in 14 local government areas of Adamawa state.
Kasim Gaidam, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, said the election would be conducted in 29 Wards (Registration Areas) and 44 Polling Units where over 40,000 votes were earlier cancelled in the recent governorship selection.
7. Nigerian Army carries out major shake-up in postings of senior officers
The Nigerian Army has announced major postings and appointments of some of its senior officers.
This was made known in a statement by Colonel Sagir Musa, Acting Director Army Public Relations.
The shake-up is the second in 9 days; a similar redeployment was effected March 7.
8. EFCC denies raid on suspended CJN Onnoghen’s Nasarawa farm
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denied storming the farm of the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen.
Earlier reports had suggested that the anti-graft agency made away with sales books, receipt booklets, its members of staff list and other documents.
9. PDP accuses Okorocha of withdrawing money from Imo state account for personal use
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo state, south-east Nigeria, has accused the outgoing governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha, of withdrawing N17bn from four banks in three days and converting government property to personal use.
Naija News reports that the Imo state Chairman of the PDP, Charles Ezekwem, made this comment during a press conference in Owerri, the state capital, on Saturday.
10. Unknown gunmen kidnap Edo traditional ruler
Unknown gunmen have kidnapped a traditional ruler, the Enogie of Ukhiri, in the Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, Godwin Aigbe.
It was gathered that the heavily armed men, numbering about five, stormed the palace of the monarch in the early hours of Saturday.
