Ahead of the supplementary election in some states, the Independent National Electoral Commission, on Monday revealed what it expects from security agencies during the election.
The INEC’s Commissioner for Information and Voter Education, Festus Okoye, called for cooperation between security operatives during the rerun elections.
While speaking on Channels TV, he challenged the voters to come out in their numbers to vote for their preferred candidate.
Okoye stated that their votes would determine the outcome of the supplementary elections.
He said: “We are ready for this particular election, and we expect that things will go well.”
“We also expect high-level cooperation from the different security agencies that will be involved in election security so that at the end of the day, people will know that a good election has been conducted.”
Okoye revealed that in the effort of the commission to deliver free, fair and credible election, no form of electoral malpractice will be tolerated.”
“We want to conduct a supplementary election that Nigerian people will be proud of; we want to also conduct a supplementary election that meets the expectations of all the critical stakeholders in the electoral process.”
“What we demand is that the political parties should rain in their members and also make sure that they act in accordance with lay down rules and procedures for the conduct of elections,” he said.
