Nigerian Senate Approves 30,000 Minimum Wage And 75,000 Penalty For Non Compliance

The Senate Committee on New National Minimum wage has approved a new minimum wage of N30,000 for workers in the country.

Naija news learnt that the Senate committee met yesterday to approve this.

As earlier reported by this online medium, the committee has set Tuesday next week as the target for submission of its report to the Senate during plenary.

The Committee which is chaired by the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Francis Alimikhena, met yesterday at Senate Room 431 New Building and concurred with the members of the House of Representatives that had earlier recommended a wage of N30,000 that was later adopted by the lower chamber.

According to Senator Shehu Sani, in a recent Tweet, “The Senate committee on new national minimum wage met yesterday and approved the new national minimum wage bill;30k as minimum wage and 75k as penalty for non-compliance,” he wrote.

Speaking of the aspect of the 2019 budget, Senator Shehu, stated that the proposal on raising funds through privatization to finance budget was denied and rejected during the campaigns.

He wrote:

An aspect of the 2019 budget carries a proposal on raising funds through privatization to finance the budget;It will be interesting to know what is going to be auctioned and to whom,in view of the fact that privatization was denied,rejected and mocked at during the campaigns.
