INEC Gives Final Verdict On Rivers State Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission has taken a final verdict about the Governorship and house of Assembly election in Rivers State.

The electoral body revealed that it will continue with the collation of results in the state.

The Director of Voter Education and Publicity in the commission, Oluwole Osazi-Uzzi stated this on Sunday during a Channels TV interview.

Osazi-Uzzi stated that the commission will conclude the collation in the state because the election was not declared inconclusive.

Naija News had earlier reported that the collation in Rivers was suspended by INEC following alleged electoral malpractice and violence in its environs.

Osazi-Uzzi also stated that the collation Officer for Bauchi State was replaced because of the threats to her life and that of her family.

“In case of Rivers, the commission will conclude the collation exercise there because it was not declared inconclusive.”

“Initially, we had penciled Bauchi down as one of the states for which there will be supplementary election, but as I speak now, quite honestly, we are not sure of that.”

“The commission will on Tuesday appoint a new collation officer who will go back and conclude the collation for areas affected in the state”

“Also if it is found out that there are no sufficient votes and there is need for a supplementary election, then one (an election) will be conducted.”
