Unknown gunmen in Jigawa state have on Tuesday kidnapped an official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahadi Hassan.
Naija News understands that the HOD, Voter Education and Publicity in the state, John Kaiwa, confirmed to newsmen on Tuesday.
John Kaiwa disclosed that Hassan was abducted along Gwiwa road in the state. He said that Hassan had been missing since Friday.
While confirming the kidnap of the INEC staff, the police authorities in Jigawa said a formal complaint has not been made in that regard.
The Jigawa state police revealed that there was no formal complaint filed by the electoral body or the family of the victims.
However, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Bala Zama contacted the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mahmoud Isah.
Naija News understands that Zama told reporters in Dutse that the kidnappers have contacted the family.
Zama added that the abductors of the INEC official have demanded a ransom before he can regain his freedom.
