The Abia State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has been accused of inducing leaders of the Social Democratic Party, in an effort to create an easy ride for the sitting Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu.
The accusation was placed forward by the chairman of SDP in Abia state, Chidi Nwosu.
Nwosu claimed that the governor allegedly offered one million Naira each to the seventeen local government chairmen of SDP in Abia to secure their endorsement ahead of the March 9 governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections.
The spokesman of the 17 SDP LGA chairmen, Mr Chijioke Ozems, while speaking with newsmen at the NUJ Abia press centre in Umuahia, stated that they are endorsing Ikpeazu base on the need for peace in the state which can only be achieved if equity is maintained by allowing the state governor to finish his term.
Nwosu while speaking with newsmen in the state said, “The leadership of the party(SDP) learnt that the state governor has promised by giving those people one million Naira each. And I’m asking the governor, instead of giving one million Naira each to non-performing SDP LGA chairmen, he should use that money to settle unpaid pensioners.”
“Those who are dying every day because of lack of attention. He could also redirect part of that money to reviving our health sector or educational sector, or all the failed areas in this administration. This government has failed”.
While reacting to the allegation, the SA to the governor on Social Orientation, Ifeanyi Umere, described the allegation as baseless and unfounded.
He said the endorsement of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu by the SDP local government chairmen in the state, was a clear testimony that the ikpeazu-led administration has laid a solid foundation for the economic and infrastructural development of Abia state.
Umere stated that no amount of propaganda can stop the re-election of the state governor on March 9th.
