First Akwa Ibom Governorship Election Result Emerges

The first result from the ongoing governorship and House of Assembly elections in Akwa Ibom state has emerged, Naija News can report.

Naija News reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) commenced the governorship and House of Assembly elections at exactly 8 am on Saturday, March 9, amidst tight security.

The election is taking place in thirty-one (31) Local Government Areas (LGAs) and four hundred and ninety-three (493) wards in the state.

In the build-up to the election, Governor Udom Emmanuel of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria’s main opposition party, popped up clearly as a top contender for the office of the governor.

On the other hand, Nsima Ekere of the governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party, is hoping to unseat Emmanuel as the governor.

Forty-five (45) candidates are vying for the post of a governor, 331 candidates are running for the House of Assembly. There are 2.11 million Registered voters in Akwa Ibom.
