2019: IPOB Members Match Out In Numbers To Say No To Elections

Ahead of the 2019 general election, the members of the Indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB, matched out in numbers in Asaba, Delta State to protest against the 2019 general elections.

Recall that Naija News reported that IPOB declared a sit at home in Abia state ahead of President Muhammadu Buhari’s presidential campaign to the state which was not fully effected on the visitation of the president.

In another related issue, IPOB on Tuesday fixed February 16 which happens to be the date for the presidential election for a referendum.

An eyewitness from the protest who was identified as Henry Azuka stated that the IPOB members were dressed in red and black and were seen holding their flags.

He further stated that the protest was started from Onitcha head bridge to Abraka quarters in Asaba to Nnebisi road and towards the Inter Bau roundabout in Asaba where they allegedly removed Atiku/ Obi posters from walls and electricity polls, including signboards bearing individuals’ company names.

It was revealed that the protesters were closely monitored by heavily armed security operatives.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Andrew Aniamaka who confirmed that the IPOB members were on a peaceful protest to newsmen in Asaba, dispelled the fear of the unknown, adding, “The police will do everything possible to bring to book anyone who may wish to cause trouble during or after the elections.”

While reacting to the removal of Atiku & Obi’s posters, he said no arrest has been made and added that Investigation was ongoing with a view to arresting the evil perpetrators.

The leader of the IPOB members on the protest, Benjamin Ezegbune who spoke to newsmen Said “Our protest was not to harm anyone, but to sensitize our people. I mean the IPOB members who to boycott elections in the state and others are mature and responsible people but we will not participate in the elections, We have agreed to boycott the elections because we have no faith in Nigeria’s democracy, IPOB Members are not fools.”
