The Coalition of United Political Parties have applauded the decision of a Federal High Court that prevented the Code of Conduct Tribunal from proceeding with the trial of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, over allegations of non-declaration of assets.
Imo Ugochinyere, the national spokesperson of the coalition in a statement said that the status of democracy in the country has once again been saved.
The coalition admonished that any attempt aimed at crippling any arm of government in the country, should be vehemently opposed by Nigerians.
The statement read, “The Coalition of United Political Parties has hailed the ruling of the Federal High Court presided over by Justice Maha which restrained the Code of Conduct Tribunal from proceeding with the back door arraignment of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, describing it as victory for democracy and rule of law and the crash of the ambition of a despot to hang on to power at all cost.
“Justice Maha ruled at the Federal High Court on Monday that no steps should be taken in respect of the trial until January 17 when all parties to the two suits should return to court for the hearing of the plaintiffs’ motion on notice.
“The CUPP calls on Nigerians to remain vigilant as these men of shame will not rest in their desperate efforts to desecrate all organs of state governance in their bid to save an already wobbling ambition of retaining their supreme non-performing master.
“The opposition also calls on men and women of good will to continue to speak out and resist any move aimed at crippling and intimidating arms of govt or individuals who are not ready to be used to do the dirty job of returning Buhari to power without going through a free and fair process.”
