1. Encomiums pour in as President Buhari celebrates 76th birthday

Leaders, politicians and other Nigerians have continued to pour encomiums and good will messages on President Muhammadu Buhari as he celebrates his 76th bithday.

The messages wish the president more strength and wisdom to pilot the affairs of the country.

2. National Assembly workers to begin strike on Monday

Staff of the National Assembly have declared their intention to embark on their planned strike scheduled to begin on Monday.

The workers under the auspices of of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria has earlier on December 4, 2018 protested non-paid allowance by the National assembly.

3. INEC warns PDP spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan over his speeches ahead of 2019 elections

INEC has called out the PDP spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, for continuing to insist that the electoral commission is planning to establish 30,000 polling units for IDPs in foreign countries.

INEC stated that it is not a political party and implored Ologbondiyan to stop engaging in hate speech capable of putting its staff at risk in 2019.

4. Groups urge Buratai to account for Army spendings

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), Enough is Enough (EiE), and BudgIT have sent a joint Freedom of Information request to Lt. General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, Chief of Army Staff of Nigeria, requesting him to use his good office and leadership position to “urgently provide information on the 2015, 2016 and 2017 budget implementation reports of the Nigerian Army.

The groups in their request, want him to include the amounts released (financial implications) and expended in fiscal years 2015, 2016 and 2017 for the various operations the Army carried out.

5. CAN dissolves elders forum after probe into N40m Buhari transport fare

The Nigerian Christian Elders Forum have been dissolved by the National Executive Committee of the Christian Association of Nigeria, following the outcome of the investigation by the committee into allegations of misconduct leveled by the NCEF against the CAN President, Rev Samson Ayokunle.

The elders forum had in a memo titled ‘NCEF Protests: Is NEC of CAN Guilty of Negligence?’ in May, alleged that when Ayokunle led a delegation to meet President Muhammadu Buhari on November 10, 2017, the leadership of CAN received N40m as “transportation money.”

6. Nigerian Army suspends, then reinstate UNICEF activities in the North East

A few hours after it announced a controversial suspension of UNICEF activities in the Boko Haram-ravaged North-east, the Nigerian Army has reversed itself, claiming intervention by certain stakeholders.

Earlier on Friday, the Nigerian Army announced the suspension of the international agency, accusing the UN agency of acts that encourage Boko Haram terrorism.

7. SSANU to begin 3-day warning strike on Monday

The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) will start a three-day nationwide protest on Monday over the Federal Government disobedience to court judgment on the issue of staff schools and failure of government to implement an agreement reached with the Union especially on Earned Allowance.

SSANU took the decision to embark on the protest at its 35th regular National Executive Council (NEC), meeting held at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology.

8. Soldier killed as Army repels Boko Haram terrorists in Borno

The Nigerian Army has repelled an attack by Boko Haram insurgents who disguised as humanitarian workers at Gudunbali community in Borno State.

Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Operation Lafiya Dole, disclosed that the insurgents, on December 14, attempted to infiltrate the community, disguising as humanitarian assistance team.

9. Atiku tells Buhari to resign over state of Nigeria’s economy

Mr. Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party has admonished President Muhammadu Buhari to resign his position as President, since he acknowledged that the economy is in bad shape.

President Buhari had on Friday, while meeting with governor of the 36 state, confessed that the economy of the country is in bad shape.

10. Mohammed Salah wins BBC African footballer of the year again

Egypt and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been voted BBC African Footballer of the Year for the second time in a row.

The 26-year-old beat Medhi Benatia, Kalidou Koulibaly, Sadio Mane and Thomas Partey to the prize.The Premier League’s player of the year scored 44 goals in 52 games for Liverpool last season.
