The Nigerian Police Force on Friday, arrested the Chairman of the Ondo State Chapter of the National Union of Road Transports Workers, NURTW, Jacob Adebo, also known as Idajo.
The arrested NURTW chairman, is reported to be an ally to the state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu.
Report revealed that he was arrested by men of the Force Criminal Investigations Department, FCID from the Lagos State Police Command.
Further report revealed that Adebo was arrested on the petition to the Inspector General of Police, over the recent crisis in the Ondo State House of Assembly, which saw some of the members who impeached the erstwhile Speaker, Bamidele Oleyelogun and his deputy, Iroju Ogundeji attacked.
The Ondo state Police Public Relations Officer, Femi Joseph, while confirming the arrest, stated that the NURTW chairman was arrested by security officers from Lagos who stormed Ondo state for his arrest.
“Yes, it is true but I can only say he was invited because our men came from Lagos and moved him out of Ondo State.
“He has also already been moved to Lagos probably for questioning.”
However, when the Police spokesperson was questioned on the reason behing the arrest he declined to give any statement.
According to Daily Post, a source in the state claimed that the NURTW boss was arrested over a petition written against him.
“He must have been arrested due to the petition written against him as regards the the attack on lawmakers of the Ondo State House of Assembly.
“I learned those guys are from Alagbon, Lagos state who must have been acting from order from above and the petition.”
Recall that 16 aggrieved lawmakers of the Ondo State House of Assembly had recently petitioned the Inspector General of Police over the attack at the Assembly by Adebo who was believed to the working on the orders of the state governor, Gov Akeredolu.
