PDP Campaign Council: Pressure On Wike To Rescind Resignation

Following the resignation of Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, south-south zonal coordinator of the PDP presidential campaign council, he is being pressurized to rescind his decision.

Sun newspaper had announced yesterday that the governor of Rivers would resign an action envisioned by many that would cause a major disruption to the presidential campaign of former vice president Atiku Abubakar.

Naija News understands that bigwigs in the PDP and allies of the party’s presidential candidate had quickly made contact with Governor Wike, urging him to reconsider his position in favor of the party’s interests.

Yesterday, he was not clear whether Wike accepted their requests.

Governor of Rivers was appointed Zone Coordinator in October alongside Ayo Fayose, Aminu Tambuwal, Ibrahim Dankwambo, Samuel Ortom and Dave Umahi with Senate President Bukola Saraki as Director General of the council of Atiku’s presidential campaign.

Specifically, Governor Aminu Tambuwal is responsible for the northwest, Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo, northeast; Governor Samuel Ortom, north center; Governor Dave Umahi, southeast; Governor Nyesom Wike, South-South and former Governor Ayodele Fayose, Southwest.

There are indications that Wike was furious with the way key decisions and appointments were carried out without consultations with party leaders.
