President Weah To Participate in All Stars Football Game
The invitation extended to the President of Liberia, George Weah, to be part of the legends’ match, which is aimed at celebrating the sports achievements of Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, in March, 2019, has been accepted.
The 1994 World Footballer of the Year, was delighted to be part of the event, when he was visited at the Government House in Monrovia on Thursday, by the two organizers of the events, Waidi Akanni and Samson Siasia.
Weah, while been presented with a customized jersey with his traditional Number 14, sent a handcrafted Christmas card to Ambode.
Naija News recalls Weah was a professional footballer during his younger days. Upon retirement from football, he ventured into politics in his home country of Liberia and was a senator before contesting and winning the countries presidential seat in 2018.
“President Weah was very happy when we met him for a private breakfast session at his official resident on Thursday morning. He’s really excited to be part of the celebration of excellence where other former African stars will also feature,” Akanni said.
Siasia while speaking said that he was happy that Weah accepted the invitation to be part of the match, which would be used to officially inaugurate the Onikan Stadium currently under renovation.
