1. President Buhari approves reduction in JAMB, NECO and BECE fees
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has during its meeting on Wednesday, approved the reduction in the exam fees for JAMB and NECO.
The slash in examination registration fees for the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), National Examination Council and the Basic Education Certificate was disclosed by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu at the end of the FEC meeting.
2. Army confirms 21 dead, 33 of its personnel wounded in Metele attack
The Nigerian Army has confirmed that 23 of its personnel were killed and 31 others wounded when Boko Haram terrorists attacked troops locations on Nov. 18 at Metele in Northern Borno.
The figure contradicts reports of 44 to 100 army personnel allegedly killed in the attack.
3. Police arrest activist, Deji Adeyanju in Abuja
Nigerians have not stopped talking as Deji Adeyanju, the Convener of Concerned Nigerians, was today arrested by the officers of Nigeria Police while leading a protest tagged ‘Police Are Not Politicians, Save Our Democracy’ in Abuja.
The protest was to demand the non-involvement of the Police in the forthcoming 2019 general election.
4. Buhari declares open COAS seminar in Maiduguri
President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday in Borno State, declared open the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Annual Conference which was originally scheduled to hold in Benin, Edo State, but was moved to Maiduguri, Borno State.
The president charged the troops to be committed to the discharge of duties, promising that government would give them needed support and encouragement.
5. ICPC drags former IG, Ehindero and CP to court for fraud
The Independent Corruption Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Wednesday, re-arraigned an ex-Inspector-General of Police, Sunday Ehindero, and a former Commissioner of Police, John Obaniyi, over alleged N16.4 million fraud.
The accused were facing a 10 amended charges before a Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting at Apo, bordering on conspiracy, fraud and making false statement.
6. Senate finally confirms Olanipekun Olukoyede as EFCC secretary
The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday, confirmed the appointment of Olanipekun Olukoyede, as the Secretary of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
His confirmation followed the submission of the report of the Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes by Senator Chukwuka Utazi.
7. Two witnesses die after testifying against Nyako in N29b fraud case
A detective with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Adekunle Odofin, has revealed how two key witnesses in the Nyako case died.
He informed Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, sitting in Maitama, Abuja, that two people who made “crucial statements” during the investigation into a N29billion fraud case involving Murtala Nyako, a former governor of Adamawa State, died mysteriously after giving their statements.
8. Boko Haram warns Nigerian Army on another planned attack on Borno State
Boko Haram terrorists have threatened another attack on the military base at Jiddari-Polo, Maiduguri, Borno State.
One of the survivors of the Monday attack, Mala Umara, told AFP that the terrorists came in large numbers, adding that while sparing him, the insurgents instructed him to tell the Nigerian Army to prepare for another attack.
9. Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed withdraws from Kwara senatorial race
Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed has stepped down for Senator Rafiu Ibrahim as the candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party for Kwara South senatorial district.
According to information gathered by Naija News, the change in candidacy follows the request of the leadership of Ibolo division of Kwara South that the senatorial ticket be retained in the axis.
10. Okorocha’s son-in-law, Uche Nwosu dumps APC
The Chief of Staff and son-in-law to Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state, Uche Nwosu has dumped the All Progressives Congress for the Democratic Peoples’ Party, (DPP).
He, alongside some members of the state house of assembly, as well as some of Governor Okorocha’s aides, reportedly defected on Tuesday.
