Mimiko Drops Presidential Race, To Vie For Senate Seat

Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, the presidential candidate of the Zenith Labour Party, and former governor of Ondo State, has shoved his presidential ambition.

Mimiko indicated his intention to contest the highest seat of power in the country after he joined Zenith Labour Party from Labour Party. He had left the People Democratic Party (PDP) for the Labour Party, shortly after he became an ex-governor.

Following his withdrawal from the presidential race, he would be participating in the senatorial election for Ondo Central Senatorial District of Ondo State.

The ex-governor made his withdrawal from the presidential race to his supporters from the 18 Local Government Areas of Ondo State and some national leaders of the party in Ondo town on Thursday.

He said, rumours of a senatorial bid, got overwhelming, saying this informed his decision to jettison the presidential race as according to him, it has been narrowed to a race between Atiku Abubakar and President Muhammadu Buhari.

He added that his decision to vie for senatorial seat was to help build the party and sustain it in the state and country.

Mimiko said “I took the decision in the ultimate interest of our party, the Zenith Labour Party, Ondo state and the country.

“I will now be running as the candidate of the ZLP for Ondo Central Senatorial district in next year’s election.”
