Just In: Cameroon Set To Lose AFCON 2019 Hosting Rights Due To Boko Haram Violence

The Confederation of African Football, CAF might withdraw the 2019 African Cup of Nations hosting right from Cameroon due to Boko Haram Insurgency.

Naija News understands the executive committee of CAF are to meet in the Ghanaian capital Accra on the sidelines of the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations tournament tomorrow for further deliberations.

Meanwhile, a Congressman in the United States of America has urged the World’s football governing body, FIFA to move the hosting rights of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations from Cameroon on grounds of insecurity.

Dana Rohrabacher in a letter to FIFA President, Gianni Infantino expressed fears over the ongoing violence in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon and Boko Haram threats in the Far North region.

“My apprehension results results from the level of violence and insecurity, due both to the ongoing civil conflict and the continuing threst of Boko Haram terrorism,” the congressman said.

The fact the Head of State, Paul Biya could not go to the Anglophone regions during campaigns due to the insecurity in that part of the country is enough reason for CAF to consider withdrawing the competition from Cameroon, the US Congressman said.

The recent kidnapping of students in the North West region of Cameroon is enough reason for FIFA to reconsider the decision for Cameroon to host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
