John Jarratt To Stand Trial On Sexual Assault Allegations

Australia actor, John Jarret, will be arraigned in court in Australia on allegations he sexually assaulted a female roommate in 1976.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor’s lawyer Bryan Wrench told a Sydney court that “it’s going to be a short sharp trial when we are ready to go.”

THR adds that Jarratt is set to plead not guilty to the offense.

The actor known for his role as the murderous Mick Taylor in the successful Australian horror franchise Wolf Creek and its two subsequent TV series, was accused of sexually assaulting a woman at Randwick, in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, in September 1976. The unidentified woman made a report to police officers last December.

Jarratt’s arraignment is scheduled for Dec. 7. The trial is expected to take place in 2019.

His lawyer previously told a court that his client’s career “has been put on suspension pending this allegation” and he would be seeking an early trial date.

The unidentified woman spoke amid the #MeToo movement, making Jarratt one of three high-profile actors who have had allegations, varying from inappropriate behavior to sexual misconduct and sexual assault, raised against them in Australia.
