Fayemi Stops Fayose’s Education Levy, Reintroduces Free Education

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state has put an end to the education development levy placed on students of public and private schools introduced by ex-Governor Ayo Fayose.

Fayemi announced the cancellation of the levy during his Ekiti North senatorial town hall meeting held as part of activities to commemorate his inauguration.

The governor reintroduced free education from primary to secondary school level to ensure that students from poor home also get access to education.

The Fayose administration imposed N1,000 levy on all pupils and students in private and government-owned schools.

The Catholic Diocese of Ekiti State had challenged the imposition of the levy, and is now before the Court of Appeal, Ado-Ekiti Division.

The new governor stated that free education is a very important concern of his government.

Fayemi further admonished the people of the state to show support for the government and reelection for President Muhammadu Buhari in the February 16 presidential election.

According to him, the people of the state will do well by ensuring the re-election of the president so that he can build on the legacies he has initiated for the past three and half years.

The governor advised candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who won at the last primaries to be magnanimous in victory and carry the losers along ahead of the general elections.
