Labour Protest Over New Minimum Wage

The leaders of the organized labour in Nigeria, have began their nationwide protest as part of moves to make the government commit to the payment of a new minimum wage.

As earlier reported by Naija News, the labour is holding out for N30,000 to be adopted as the new minimum wage while the federal government is proposing N24,000 and the state governors want N20,000.

On Monday, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo led the economic management team to discuss the issue of the new minimum wage with relevant stakeholders but the meeting failed to reach a conclusion.

All 36 state governors are however expected in Abuja today, to discuss and possibly take a stand on the figure for the new minimum wage.

Labour on its part has threatened to start an indefinite nationwide strike as from November 6 should government fail to agree and adopt the N30,000 been proposed.

It also said workers would be mobilized to hold protests across the nation on 30th October.
